Job Description:

PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION: The primary function of the Team Leader position is to manage and control all aspects of production operations within an assigned production area. The Production function has three Team Leader positions; Ceramics, Crown & Bridge, and Removable. This is a working position; the Team Leader is expected to perform as a Production Technician as well as coordinate and lead the assigned team of Production Technicians.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Team Leader reports directly to the Production Manager. The Production Technician position reports to the Team Leader position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Following are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary to meet the requirements of the position. EDUCATION: A High School diploma or equivalent is required with no exception. A College Degree is highly desired preferably with the degree and/or coursework related to Dentistry, Business Administration, Industrial Management, or similar.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: The Team Leader is preferred, but not required, to be a Certified Dental Technician for one or more of the specialties for dental prosthetics. Additionally, any professional certification related to Dentistry, Business Administration, Industrial Management, or similar would be advantageous.

EXPERIENCE A minimum of five years of hands-on experience fabricating dental prosthetics.

REPRESENTATIVE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES • Must have solid interpersonal skills including the ability to initiate, build, and maintain healthy relationships with clients (dentists and their office staff), employees, vendors, and the community at large. • Must have managerial skills including, but not limited to: o Leadership and team building skills; specifically, the ability to build and lead a production team. o Goal setting and planning skills. o Decision making skills. o Problem solving skills. o Conflict resolution skills. o Communication skills. o Training, coaching, and mentoring skills. • The ability to quickly understand case requirements based on prescriptions and impressions provided by dental offices and coordinate production activities to fabricate dental prosthetics that meet all client requirements. 

• The ability to prioritize work and schedule technician activities so that all client cases are completed and delivered on time. • Must have the ability to understand the capabilities and appropriate use of laboratory and industrial equipment and machinery as well as the ability to recognize opportunities for using current and emerging technologies for enhancing product quality and/or reduce production costs. • Must have a broad and solid understanding of quality assurance as well as an appreciation for the critical importance of producing high quality custom products to assure client satisfaction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Team Leader to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • MOBILITY: The Team Leader must have sufficient mobility to access all areas of the company facilities without assistance as well as sufficient mobility to travel on company business (both by car and by air).

• DEXTERITY: The Team Leader must have sufficient dexterity to fabricate very small dental prosthetics using various tools and pieces of equipment. This requires full and uninhibited use of fingers, hands, and arms with sufficient manual dexterity to perform these duties efficiently and safely. The Team Leader must also have sufficient dexterity to use measuring devices (micrometers, gauges, calipers, scales, etc.).

• STRENGTH: Heavy lifting is not a routine function of this position; there are no specific strength requirements.

MENTAL SKILLS

• LANGUAGE: Must be able to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal. This position requires the ability to make formal presentations to individuals and groups. Multilingual capabilities are not required, but could be advantageous.

• MECHANICAL: Must understand the mechanical workings of equipment used for dental lab operations including capabilities, limitations, appropriateness for various tasks, proper operating techniques, and equipment maintenance requirements. Must also have troubleshooting skills and be able to diagnose and correct the likely cause of production equipment failures, malfunctions, and/or equipment related product quality issues.

WORKING CONDITIONS The Team Leader will normally work both indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office environment and outdoors (when traveling on company business). The noise level in the normal work environment is generally low; hearing protection is not normally required. Working hours will generally be during normal business hours but may include the need to work any or all seven days of the week. The normal workday is eight hours and the normal workweek is 40 hours. The Team Leader is expected to work longer hours and to adjust start and stop times as necessary to accomplish the position duties and to support business needs.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum one to two years specialized training in dental technology 
  • Certified Dental Technician (CDT) certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum five to seven years fabricating dental prosthetic appliances
  • Requires manual dexterity, strong attention to detail and good spatial and visual perception
  • Requires flexibility and adaptability to meet laboratory demands
  • Ability to communicate with customers regarding technical ramifications and appliance designs
  • Willingness to follow safety rules when operating hand tools
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
