Reports to: The Denture Model Technician will report to the Removable Lab Manager.
Job Overview:
The Denture Model Technician will be responsible for fabricating dental prosthetic appliances
from customer prescription forms and to repair such devices per customer orders. Dental
prosthetic appliances consist primarily of full- and partial-dentures, crowns, bridges, full- and
partial-cast partials, and assorted orthodontia devices (splints, veneers, etc.).
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Plan the appropriate setup and operation of various laboratory tools and ensure proper
quantities of raw material inventory is on hand for fabrication of appliances
• Read prescription forms or specifications from customers and examine dental models or
impressions from customers to determine the design of the appliance to be fabricated
• Scan appliance into lab management database (LabTrac) which tracks technicians work
performed and amount of time spent fabricating each appliance
• Create a model of the patient’s mouth by pouring plaster into the dental model or
impression allowing plaster to set
• Fabricate, alter or repair the specified appliance according to doctor instructions on the
prescription form. Fabrication processes vary based on the appliance, but include the
following:
• Dentures: (1) Preparing (box and pour impression material, trim models, set and seal bites and articulate; (2) Setting Up (select and setup teeth); (3) Waxing (wax dentures for try-in and/or finish; (4) Processing (invest and boil out, pack); and (5) Finishing (finish and contour dentures, polish dentures)
• Cast Partials: (1) Designing (survey and design cases, block-outs); (2) Modeling (make refractory model, invest model); (3) Waxing (wax framework, attach retention devices, carve teeth and sprue); (4) Casting and Recovery (cast metal, divest cases); and (5) Finishing (trim, rough finish and final polish)
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience in a dental laboratory.
• Ability to read cursive writing.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in removable field
• Must have working knowledge in all phases of removable prosthetics
• Orthodontic experience helpful
